One Piece Chapter 619-The New Development

One Piece Chapter 619 Link

Summery:

So far Zoro, Ussop, Brook and the Neptune king are captured by the New Fishman Pirates. While Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Sanji and the princess are met with Jinbe who is explain about why Arlong was the way he was and why he has restricted Luffy on not fighting Hodi.

Discussion:

After a long wait this chapter did not live up to my expectations, even though it was still a raw chapter, I wanted to see more of Zoro’s azz whipping, but it was cut short due to the circumstances of his surrounds. Though I was sad that there was a halt on the chapters of the mangas last week, the people in Japan deserved a break and what do you know slowly people are going back to their old lives and one of them happens to be our favorite which is reading One Piece chapters. Now this chapter was more of another set up to the plot and less action, now if your been a One Piece fan as long as I have you will realize one thing about One Piece which is that it’s more of a story Manga more than an action packed manga, it is true there is action but the story and characters are more than the action, they have character you get the feeling that they are alive not just a fictional character. Also, it is a very detailed story line and art wise. Oda had mentioned in one of his interviews that he spends three day setting up the plot and three days drawing the chapter, this is why One Piece is so successful because the author has never lost his touch and thinks about his story. I can go on and on about how the author is one of the best manga authors out there and no one will question that and again I said ONE not THE best. If you don’t believe me read his work and see how detailed it is look at the pictures at the bottom of this blog.

Now enough with the author lets get to this weeks chapter and what it brings up to the table. Now this chapter was one of the shortest chapters we got but it is still full of things to discuss. For one we start with Zoro who from previous chapters has shown his development from the two year skip and there has been one thing bugging me about Zoro which is his left eye. Ever since the two year skip he has not opened that eye which leads to two questions? has Zoro lost his use of his left eye? or has he developed an eye technique?  But the first seems more likely than the second but the second just seems like a more awesome development for Zoro. If he did develope some sort of eye technique it would be have to do something with Haki or a whole new power that has not being introduced to One Piece. If you can remember Haki was never introduced in maybe the first 300 chapters of One Piece even though it was hinted Haki but was not explained up until the 600s chapter line. And speaking of Haki did you notice how Luffy has developed his Haki really well. When he arrived at the sea forest he noticed the axe coming towards the princess and was able to knock it out off its projection. This leads me to believing that he has full understanding of his surroundings and is able to tell where is enemy is coming from and how many there are, sort of like a sensory type of power. This type of Haki that Luffy seems to be using is called the color of Observation. This type of Haki is like I said is a sensory type. Now his Intimidation Haki is known as the kings haki. But there is only a certain amount of people that he can intimated so how will his Intimidation Haki work against stronger oppenent, there has to be another use for this type of power. I know that I am going off topic but I just want to give some of the new One Piece readers an understanding of what Haki is and if you want to know more about Haki just read chapter 597 that is when Haki is explained to the basic. Now out of the SH only Luffy has been shown to be able to use Haki, though Zoro and possibly Sanji could have acquired their powers of Haki. Now Zoro has shown that he is able to sense if a person is strong or not so is this simply a talent he has or is it a hint  to Zoro acquiring Haki powers. Zoro is a type of person who ranks his opponent by his swords the more swords Zoro is using the stronger the opponent with three swords used against the strongest opponent. So what does this have to do anything with Zoro having Haki well for one he was trained by Hawkeye which I know for a fact has Haki so he must had taught it to Zoro.

Sanji is finally out of his stone mode state and is back to his former self always smothering the most beatiful woman around or in this case the mermaid princess. I know that people have been complain about how Sanji has being portrade as a pervert and his nose bleeding got annoying for awhile and I agree with them except the pervert part. Think about it for two years Sanji had to spend that time with people who were hideous and were trying to convert him to becoming one of them. Now if that happened to me, I would do the same thing he does which is fall in love with the first woman he sees. But now I hope that Sanji had his last nose bleed and turning to stone beacuse he has seen two of the most beautiful woman in the sea he already has seen Boa Hancock and now the mermaid princess I don’t think any one would top their beauty so I think we are at the end of Sanji’s nose bleeding. Now Nami makes it to the sea forest just in time for Jinbe to explain what was going on. And when she hears his story she get this uneased look on her face. Nami seems to still have some interest or something with Arlong or it might be just hatred towards him, but for some reason she is the most interested person that wants to know what exactly happened that made Arlong the way he was. I know the Fishman hate humans for what happened to their Tiger hero and she has heard this from them, but she seems like she still have a deep connection with the Arlong crew.

But the spotlight of this chapter is Jinbe’s reaction to seeing the princess and Hachi. It was a priceless face that he made and it just goes to show that no matter how serious of a character you are in One Piece you will show a funny side. This is when I was reimbursed with the thought that Jinbe still has a chance of joining the SH crew because now he has shown a side that each of the SH have. When Jinbe explains what happened 11 years ago it was not much of a surprise, it was obvious that he let Arlong loss on East Blue, the reason that he might of let Arlong go to East Blue is because out of all the four corners of the sea East Blue is the weakest one. So Jinbe might of thought Arlong won’t have so much strong people that can hurt Arlong or possible killing him. Also, I am to believe that Jinbe actually carried about Arlong as to Arlong was part of Jinbe’s crew. This is why the reason I think that Jinbe doesn’t want Luffy to fight Hodi is that Jinbe himself want to stop Hodi and make it his responsibility to take care of the current situation in Fishman island.

Queen Otohime, she seems to have to do something that will play a big role in this how incident, if we go back a few chapters ago when Jinbe is first introduced he says how the Queen has caused an up roar and that her ideals are not forgotten. Now this could be connected to these current situation and I think the reason that Jinbe picked the sea forest as a meeting place for Luffy is so he can explain what happened to the Queen and the connection of the Arlong Pirates.

Side Notes: Neptunes attack looked sort of like a Kamehameha wave, Robin is still searching for that stone, Usopp still has that cowardliness as to he just simple puts his hands up to surrenders. It was funny but Usopp still has that old cowardliness in him, poor Brook just floating in the water and the fishman thinking he is just someones dead bones. Franky has a Mohawk now.

Zoro is just plain AWESOME!!!

  1. Now, I wouldn’t say that luffy has been at Shichibukai level for a long time. Back then the only things that stopped luffy from easily getting killed off long ago is sheer luck and resolve, not to mention the cockiness of his enemies. Not saying he wasn’t a strong individual, but back then, compared to what the grand line offers, Crocidille was right, luffy was just a rookie. Of course, all that changed after the timeskip.

  2. some constructive criticism. all u do is summarize, or rather you just write exactly what happened in the chapter. if we have read the chapter then we wouéd obviously know what happened in it. so there is no reason to tell us again. i stopped reading you reviews a while ago after realising what you were doing. i read this one and you`re still dping it.

so try to do a little less summary and a little more analysis. look for things we may have missed in the chapter, and what you think is interesting. simply summarizing is boring. and the simile`s u try to make, ie lunch before desert, really dont work. so cut that out and try to make the review interesting in other ways.

i appreciate you taking the time to do this every week. im not trying to be rude just trying to help out 🙂

  3. I appreciate the advice but I’ll try to do more analysis and less summary, so I thank you for the advice so say hopefully next week I will show some improvement on more analysis and less summarizing and hopefully next weeks chapter is longer so it will be easier to analysis.

  4. actually I’ll try to edit this weeks review and see if there is improvement. Check it out in one of these day and tell me how it is.

  5. lol sounds great :]
I apologize for my harsh tone. really do appropriate you time and effort

  6. My main man Sanji’s back! Gotta jet now!

  7. jdog,
i think luffys’ use of his haki is like the sky island arc, what did they call it? mantra, that is what luffys abilities favor, except he has the kings haki,
the snake sisters had the same kind of haki, where they could predict moves, and coby to a lesser extent. he can count the ppl on a battlefield.
i think that raleigh taught him the principles of haki, and let him work the rest out. cause luffy is kindhearted, but extremely straightforward, and that shows in use of haki. but great summary..nice to have someone to talk op with. keep up the good work

  8. Jinbei’s reaction to the princess was epic! As serious as Jinbei is, he still looked ridiculously funny when was surprised.

I enjoyed that the most in this chapter.

  9. It be interesting if coby winds up catchering luffy at some point.

  10. even if coby catches luffy, i don’t think that he will send him to prison, coby owes luffy and garp. if it weren’t for them, he would still be on that womans ship being her navigator. but i like the rate in which coby is growing, he went from being a crybaby, to being able to use sora, and now he has mantra. throughout onepiece, luffy has made some pretty important friends. i don’t think he is going down anytime soon,

  11. im surprised at the rate in which coby has grown, but i don’t think he will be able to catch luffy

  12. @everyone, Oda indeed foreshadowed Jinbei’s revelation this chapter.

  13. did you notice that Jinbei also noticed that the axe was flying to the princess could it be that he also developed mantra???

  14. @ Sebastian I think he was just curious on what Luffy was doing, but Jinbe is extremely powerful and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some sort of Haki.
