A year after the Kage Summit, the shinobi world fell into darkness, despair and chaos. Uchiha Madara’s and Danzou’s strategies have caused a total disrupt among shinobi villages. Even Sunagakure and Konohagakure are now foes. Another great war is silently starting. But, whether the Mizukage and Hokage are friends or foes is still unknown
Despite all, Naruto has grown to become a calm and bold leader. He wanders throughout the dark world with a small group consisting of Sakura, Kiba, Lee and Sai. They carry missions for both Konoha and Naruto as he was the parallel Kage. They look for clues to uncover twisted plots, forge new trustworthy alliances, iron things out with Sunagakure and find the truth about the Uchihas
Speaking of Uchiha, Sasuke, Karin and Juugo seemed to have disappeared and the world believes them to be dead but Naruto believes otherwise. True enough, Sasuke is still alive. He travels mostly by himself disguised as a humble wanderer and the one thing he desires is to punish the murderers of his clan and restore the honor of the Uchiha name. Sasuke, Karin and Juugo. He is an enemy of Konoha and Akatsuki. But he has a calmer disposition now; gone were his violent thoughts and his rash ways.
After an investigative mission in Sunagakure, Naruto’s group returned to their meeting point at Valley’s End. The others were setting up while Naruto settled himself upon a log close by the fire he had just made. As Kiba enters into their campsite on Akamaru’s back, he gets off and suddenly takes off his pack and flings to the ground. Naruto blinked at this, “Umm…..something the matter Kiba?”
The said person turned to face his leader, “Oh goodness no. I just put my pack down as gently as I could.” Kiba said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Naruto sweatdropped. “Then what’s the problem.” He said calmly.
“You wanna know what my problem is? Gaara’s my problem! I don’t understand why you keep trying to make peace with him! He is nothing but a vicious and blood thirsty monster!!” Kiba shouted, spit flying from his mouth.
“That’s going a little far don’t you think?”
Kiba walked up to him, shaking with rage. “The Sand shinobi killed my mother and sister in bloody traitorous ambush!”
Naruto’s eyes widened and he looked down at his feet. “Oh. Right.” He said in a sad voice.
Naruto knew the matter was delicate as he tried to reason with Kiba: “You’ve been patient with this, but I still think it was a trap, and ask you for more time to figure it out.”
“If we proved Suna’s guilt in the end, I will put my life on the line to help you with your vengeance”, Lee added, doing the trademark nice guy pose with teeth sparkling.
“Don’t you trust us?” Naruto asked with a reassuring look.
“Of course I trust you.” Kiba admitted with a sigh, finally calming down. “You are the only one who stood up against Danzou’s madness.”
Not far from the group, a shinobi was eavesdropping. He was disguised as a shabby man sitting on the ground under the waterfalls. In his hand was a scroll covered with dry blood.
“Hmmm…. I think it is time to help the enemy of my enemy”, the stranger muttered cryptically as he smirked.
In the blink of an eye, he was already standing beside Naruto. Hands up, he surrendered the scroll. But Sakura raced to stab the shinobi. A fight broke out.
Initially the mysterious shinobi avoided most of Sakura’s attacks by using replacement jutsu. Kiba soon locked himself into the fight with Akamaru’s help, forcing the stranger to use more tricks. Sai only intervened twice, PUSHING his friends out of REACH in some attacks. Lee and Naruto remained in a defensive stance, not sure if this was truly an enemy. The shinobi used water, earth and fire jutsu throughout the fight.
Naruto, observing the unknown shinobi, was surprised to notice that he could manage so many styles, like Kakashi, but he didn’t seem as strong. No…….He couldn’t be…
Lee too seemed to be aware of the same characteristics as he addressed the stranger.
“To conceal your presence from us, you must be pretty strong. To evade Sakura and Kiba’s attacks, you must be pretty well-trained and you must have seen them. To manage different elemental techniques, you must need Sharingan. To have Danzou as your enemy, you don’t need to be Sasuke but it feels that you are him……… Well?”
Naruto didn’t need to hear more to be convinced that his suspicions were correct.
“You can’t fool me anymore. You are Sasuke, aren’t you?”
“Just check the scroll, baka! I am off.” And in a puff of smoke, the henge was released and Sasuke disappeared along with it.
After regaining their senses, Sakura, Kiba and Lee read the scroll. It was a hasty note written by Hana Inuzuka, Kiba’s sister. In it she was telling Kiba that they found out Danzou had sent them to a trap in order to put Sunagakure and Gaara in a bad position.
Naruto alone chased after Sasuke into woods. “Sasuke! Wait!” But Sasuke didn’t stop. Naruto ran through the forest and into a grassy clearing where Sasuke was waiting for him. He stopped in front of Sasuke, panting from the effort of keeping up, “Aww, come on baka! I wasn’t running that fast.”
“Why do you keep on running?” Naruto’s calm and steady voice pierced the air. No answer came from Sasuke so he went straight to the point “Back then, it was childish of me to ask you to go back. Now I understand your loss and your vengeance.” Naruto thought about Mirada, about Pein’s attack on Konoha “I want you to trust me, Sasuke. I can help you if you would just let me.” Sasuke was just standing still, and Naruto was getting slightly impatient. “Well? Aren’t you gonna answer me?!” Still there was no response.
“Fine!!! If you don’t want to talk, we can fight. If it’s the only way for you to listen to me, I will beat you for sure.”
“Is that so?” Sasuke smirked.
Naruto knew that a fight was the way to show Sasuke his growth, his determination and his power to help him.
Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Multi Shadow Clone Technique)!” Naruto yelled and created a hundred clones of himself that jumped over Sasuke LAUNCHING strikes and kicks at Sasuke.
Effortlessly, Sasuke destroyed several clones using only taijutsu. But there were too many Kage Bunshin.
Sasuke was pissed. “Haven’t you learned anything new all these years?”
“Sharingan!” Sasuke shouted activating his eyes’ effect, followed by “Katon: Housenka no Jutsu (Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Technique).” Sasuke launched multiple small fireballs at a fast rate, destroying numerous clones. Sasuke launched a second attack, this time hiding kunai in the fireballs.
Naruto’s clones completely covered Sasuke’s body. BOOM! Sasuke’s body exploded destroying the Kage Bunshin. It was Itachi’s jutsu: Bunshin Daibakuha (Clone Jutsu Super Explosion).
The real Sasuke stepped out of the woods. Naruto was livid.
Sasuke made hand signs and took in a deep breath. ‘Katon: Goukakyu no Jutsu! (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique )‘ He blew a gigantic fireball towards the clones. The great fireball caused massive destruction, destroying the clones in its path and started a fire in the surrounding woods.
From behind Sasuke two more Naruto Kage Bunshin reached their prey.
“Kanashibari no Jutsu (Temporary Paralysis Technique)” Sasuke froze as he felt his body going numb from the legs up. Soon his entire body was paralyzed by Naruto’s jutsu. Sasuke was surprised. ‘An ANBU technique?’ “So you have learned a few new tricks, but it’s no match for me.” ‘Chidori Nagashi (One Thousand Birds Current)’ Lightning current shot out from his body. The energy flowed throughout his body, canceling Naruto’s paralysis attack and he then channeled it into the ground, destroying the surrounding clones.
Now, only the real Naruto stood in front of Sasuke. Naruto took out a summoning scroll and with a puff of smoke, summoned a katana.
Sasuke laughed at that. “A katana? You have got to be kidding me!” Sasuke pulled out his own katana.” Your puny little sword is no match for mine!”
Naruto smirked,” Wanna bet?”
‘Kusanagi no Tsurugi: Chidori Katana (Kusanagi Sword: Chidori Katana )” Sasuke yelled. Lightening surged through the blade of his sword making it sharper and deadlier.
Naruto replied with his own attack: “Mikazuki no Mai (Dance of the Crescent Moon)” Sasuke blinked, “Isn’t that Hayate’s attack?”
Naruto shrugged, “So what? It was up for grabs anyway.” Naruto then begins to attack Sasuke from different directions, his katana clashing with Sasuke’s over and over again but Naruto’s katana wasn’t breaking and Sasuke was surprised.
Naruto noted Sasuke’s surprise. “This blade is made from chakra-conductor metal. I run my wind chakra to make it several times sharper. And you already know that fuuton wins over raiton,” he explained.
Naruto swung his sword, dashing towards Sasuke. “Still not enough!” Sasuke mocked.
He used Shunshin no Jutsu (Body Flicker Technique) and disappeared. He began appearing at different spots using his incredible speed; launching successive attacks from left, right and above Naruto.
Sasuke’s speed finally broke Naruto’s defense, stabbing him in the chest. Bright crimson blood covered Naruto’s jacket. The katana fell to the ground. “Ha! Eat that you, cocky idiot!” But Naruto was grinning at Sasuke and Sasuke quickly understood he had been tricked. The wounded body disappeared in a puff of smoke. Above Sasuke, a second Naruto appeared.
“Kaze no Yaiba! (Blade of Wind)” A blade of pure wind caught Sasuke off guard. He quickly changed his stance, using the Kusanagi to protect himself. But Naruto’s powerful wind blade cut through the Kusanagi, stopping at Sasuke’s neck. He was at Naruto’s mercy. Sasuke was shocked, blood trickled from the wound Naruto’s sword made on his neck. Naruto backed off
“Have you warmed up yet?” Naruto asked, clearly excited.
“Not quite.” Sasuke pulled the sleeve up on his right arm, where a summoning tattoo could be seen. He took blood from his neck, that Naruto had grazed before with his katana, and touched the tattoo.
“Kuchiyose No Jutsu”, he said calmly, observing Naruto intently. Shuriken and kunai rained over Naruto’s position who dodged and made two shadow clones.
“Fuuton whirlpool,” Naruto counterattacked. The wind formed into a small tornado, engulfing Sasuke’s attack. Sasuke used the body flicker technique, so fast that Naruto was seeing Sasuke after-images continuously launching shuriken and kunai from different directions. But Naruto’s wind gust was still protecting him. He created two other shadow clones and quickly went to work. Soon they were done. “Rasen shuriken!” Naruto added.
“The same attack won’t work twice.” Sasuke said before realization hit him. Naruto suddenly threw the attack straight at him “Shit! It can’t be! Mangekyo Sharingan!”
Sasuke dodged but…“Kage Shuriken no Jutsu! (Shadow Shuriken Technique)” was Naruto’s reply.
“Chidori Nagashi!” Sasuke managed to repel the attack in time.
Naruto was in turmoil. He knew that it was dangerous for Sasuke to use those eyes, but he really wanted to see what he could do. And he wanted Sasuke to see the new Naruto.
“Oodama Rasengan” he shouted, resolving his will.
He ran at Sasuke, who seemed frozen with fear and plowed the attack into his chest. Sasuke’s chest exploded in blood. Naruto could not believe it.
“You didn’t dodge it? No way. This is…”
Sasuke’s body started to melt.
“Kawarimi no Jutsu?! No!!!” Naruto realized in surprise.
The surrounding area started to change. Naruto was back at the river’s bank. Sakura and the others were fighting Sasuke, Juugo and Suigetsu. The fight was fierce. Blood and screams were everywhere and one by one, Naruto’s friend fell. Tears started to fall down Naruto’s eyes. He couldn’t help it but he knew what it was.
“This is Tsukiyomi.”
Naruto closed his eyes. He tried to visualize his chakra and change its current. It was not easy. But he finally managed to do it. When he opened his eyes, he saw Sasuke standing near by.
“Congratulations!” Sasuke commented him. “Other than me, you were the only one who overcame Tsukiyomi. But you’re almost out of tricks. And I’m only just starting…” he added warningly.
Naruto smiled broadly. “Yeah, I used to be trapped in the simplest genjutsu. But Sage training taught me chakra control which is necessary to break illusions. Your Demonic Illusion was a hard one though.”
“Ah so you got out? Well lets see you take a bit outta this! Amaterasu !!”
Black flames suddenly erupted right beside Naruto whose eyes widened as he recognized the technique “Crap!!” he leapt away but the flames seem to follow him as if it had a mind of its own. Naruto kept leaping in different directions but the fire still followed him. He started to panic, ‘If those flames touch me I’ll be cooked faster than a mosquito in a frying pan!’ Meanwhile Sasuke was having trouble with his attack for his eyes are not used to this kind of jutsu and have started to bleed and the pain was starting to get worse as he kept using them. “Damn!!!” He muttered as he closed his eyes as Naruto tripped and fell and the flames reached him. And right as they were to touch his feet, they disappeared. Naruto looked up to see Sasuke covering his eyes and let out a great sigh. “That was a little too close for comfort. Any longer and I would’ve been cooked. There’s a Kami out there that loves me.” Naruto stood up and his eyes changed. He was still in Sage Mode, but his eyes had slits resembling the Kyuubi’s eyes.” I must say Sasuke. You had me worried for a sec.”
Sasuke smiled, “Oh don’t relax yet. I have much more in store for you. This battle is about to take a shocking turn of events.”
“Dude……that’s gotta be the worst pun I’ve ever-.” A raindrop interrupted him. Then more fell down. Then it began to come down in torrents. “Oh, boy. This is not good.”
All the fire and wind, plus the Amaterasu caused enough heat to start a storm that Sasuke was waiting for. Sasuke stood up, did some hand seals and aimed his hand to the sky and Naruto realized the attack Sasuke is about to perform. “I take it back. Kami hates me and he hates me a lot.”
“Kirin.” Sasuke stated simply.
The most powerful lightning bolt came down and struck Naruto, consuming his body.
‘It is done.’ Sasuke thought as he waited for the smoke to clear.
But once the mist cleared, instead of a burned body, a towering 8-tailed Kyuubi was facing Sasuke.
But when the Kyuubi spoke, Sasuke heard Naruto’s voice.
“I must admit that was impressive. If I didn’t turn into this form I would’ve have been roasted alive”
Sasuke was shocked still. “How……how is this possible?”
Naruto explained: “The Kyuubi can no longer control me. I didn’t want to use this. But you gave me no other choice.”
Sasuke was pondering the sudden development: “I am not sure if these eyes can suppress the powers of the 8- tails. It can even go worse and take the 9 tailed form…”
“Are you going to stand there until the end of time twiddling your thumbs, or are we going to fight?” he shouted at Naruto, eager to see what he could do against the Great Beast.
The Kyuubi let out a piercing howl and dark flames erupted from his mouth.
“Susanoo!” Sasuke shouted in response.
To Naruto’s surprise, the Kyuubi’s fire was pretty similar to Amaterasu.
“Sasuke?” Naruto whispered, wondering what the dark-haired shinobi had in mind, but also worried of the effect that using such advanced techniques could have on his eyes.
Sasuke appeared, shielded by Susanoo’s power. It was holding the Toksuka sword.
Naruto had never seen anything like that before, but instead of feeling scared, he felt excited, elated even. His blood was boiling at the incredible chance to have a fight like this with Sasuke. He remembered the fight they had had last time, at Valley’s End. Back then he was desperate and sad at Sasuke’s decision to leave the village, but he had felt the same excitement when fighting him. He didn’t feel desperate this time; he was calmer and smarter, even if he knew that the chance of dying was greater now that both of them were full-fledged shinobi. He only hoped that Sasuke felt the same and that he was somehow reaching at him through this battle.
But as the battle was coming to its climax, Juugo suddenly stepped out of the shadows of the woods around them and simply told Sasuke:
“Sasuke, I found him.”
Sasuke smiled, “Well, doube, I guess this is it. I must say you’ve gotten stronger… much stronger. We’ll finish this battle the next time we meet so get even more stronger than you are now cause next time I won’t be some lenient on you.” He turned and waved. Naruto turned back into his old self.
“Sasuke! Wait!!’ But he left in the blink of an eye. Naruto looked everywhere, but Sasuke was really gone. Juugo approached Naruto and gave him a shabby notebook, saying:
“That’s a parting gift. It is more likely that I won’t live to see you again.” his voice revealed deep sadness. “Take care of him once I am gone, will you?” Naruto smiled, “You got it!”
Naruto opened the notebook. He was looking at the faces of the members of the Uchiha clan. He stopped at the last page, staring down at Sasuke’s youthful face.
“An ANBU list of targets?”
“That is Itachi’s ANBU book.” Juugo clarified.
‘Itachi’s book of……..’ Suddenly everything started to get clearer for Naruto now. “So that is why Itachi became a traitor. But he couldn’t kill his brother?”
Juugo smiled. “Naruto, you took this rather calmly. You must have been pondering on this thought for a while now?”
Naruto nodded.
“Danzou gave the order.” Juugo seemed keen to make this clear before he pierced Naruto with an intense look. “It is up to you to prove that the Uchihas were innocent victims, just like the others who were caught in Danzou’s twisted plot.”
Naruto was a bit confused. “Weren’t the Uchihas plotting against Konoha?”
Juugo stared at him, surprised. “Those who know the truth never said a word. The only survivor of the massacre went under several memory modifications. Not even the awakening of Mangekyo Sharingan can unveil all the true memories. You can’t take the truth from Danzou, the Elders, Madara or even Sasuke… But there are other sources… like the Kyuubi. There is more than meets the eye.”
And Juugo was gone. Naruto clenched the book in his hand.

Sasuke and Juugo headed to a distant land to seek some answers and tools to accomplish their goal. Sasuke was dazed as they moved along and seemed lost in thought and memories.
“Naruto…” he said quietly, a soft smile playing on his lips.
Juugo saw this and smiled broadly. There is still some hope.
———
Naruto was smiling despite the exhaustion. Holding the notebook on his hand, he looked at the sky, determined but more at ease than he had been in a long time.
“I will bring you back, Sasuke! We will both defeat Danzou, bringing peace and cleaning this world from all evil.” Then he made his trademark grin “And then one day, we will sit again at the training camp, laughing together and eating ramen.
