Naruto Chapter 454 – Real Heroes Let Girls Beat Them Up

Hello everyone, another week another chapter of Naruto! This week with chapter 454 we get to meet the rest of the Kages who haven’t been introduced yet. We already know about Gaara (Kazekage), Danzo (Hokage) and angry-muscles-dude (Raikage), and now we get to see Mizukage and Tsuchikage. I was kinda expecting them to be fearsome and powerful figures, but Kishi chose to present these guys as more comedic characters it seems. Tsuchikage turns out to be an old coot, I mean this guy should be in retirement; he broke his hip before even setting out from the village, LOL. By the looks of it, he’s probably older than the Third Hokage before he died. I wonder why he’s still the Tsuchikage, there must be more qualified shinobi in the village than him to take up the thrown. Or perhaps this image of him is hiding his true powers…? Nah.

The Mizukage, as it turns out, is not Madara (unless Madara enjoys crossdressing) but is a hot chick. This raises the question why Kisame had called Madara the Mizukage in an earlier chapter. The only conclusion is that Madara was a former-Mizukage sometime in the past. Given his powers and age, it’s totally feasible. But anyways, the current Mizukage is young and beautiful; however, this kage has some serious personality problems, specifically regarding her age. I’m guessing she’s similar to Tsunade in that she’s older than her appearance and probably hasn’t married yet, hence her paranoia regarding words like ‘age’ or ‘late.’ Regardless, it’s nice to see more young faces as Kages, old farts like Danzo aren’t exactly fun to look at.

And it looks like every Kage will be bringing two bodyguards with them to the meeting. If this is so, then maybe security won’t be as tight as I initially thought. So maybe Sasuke has a shot at killing Danzo after all because none of the shinobi introduced so far seem to be exceptionally strong; though we’ll have to wait until they show off their techniques before speculating further. The Tsuchikage is bringing along a big guy named Akatsuchi and and a skinnier ninja named Kurotsuki who I’m hesitant to call a ‘he’ or a ’she.’ I really hate it when manga artists draw these androgynous type of characters The Mizukage’s bodyguards are a little more interesting. The eye-patch dude is named Ao, he seems pretty serious but isn’t off to a very good start with the Mizukage due to a misinterpretation of his words. He better be careful with what he says in the future. The young kid’s name is Chojiro, and believe it or not, he’s supposedly one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. This boy is not exactly what we’re used to when we hear the Seven Swordsmen. We tend to think of tough and dangerous guys like Kisame and Zabuza, not some nerdy looking kid who has some self-confidence issues. But I guess there’s a reason why he’s been made one of the Swordsmen. I expect him to face off against Suigetsu when Sasuke attacks, so hopefully Chojiro’s battle ability is better than his personality. The two bodyguards the Raikage decides to bring are named Shi and Darui. They seem a lot less energetic than the Raikage is, but then again it’s tough for anyone to top the Raikage in that department. The final question is, who will Danzo bring to the meeting? He’s probably aware that Sasuke will be after him and is likely to attack him at the meeting. The boring answer is that he’ll just bring two generic ANBU to protect him, but what if he chose, say, Naruto and Sai. This would put Naruto in a serious dilemma because he won’t let himself kill Sasuke but as the Hokage’s appointed bodyguard it is also his duty to protect the Hokage at all cost, even if it is Danzo. This is all purely plot speculation at this point, but it’d be really interesting if it does happen.

Poor Naruto, finally when it seems that he has grown out of the “getting-constantly-beat-down-by-Sakura” phase, now he’s getting pummeled by a girl from another village. I feel bad for Naruto having to take punishment for all the crap Sasuke has been doing, but I can understand his thinking – this is the only action he can make at this point to try to prevent the cycle of revenge continuing. Sometimes, being powerful isn’t just about showing off and beating all the enemy; it’s easy to dish out the hurt but it takes a better man to be able to take it as well, especially when it’s done for a friend.

Lastly, old fart Danzo is carrying on his nefarious schemes as we speak. This guy is about the most selfish shinobi we’ve seen in a while, everything he orders seems only to benefit him. Because he fears Anko, who is tracking Kabuto, may find out the connection between him and Orochimaru, he’s ordering his ANBU to trail her and maybe assassinate her in the future. He also wants Kabuto captured, but seems more interested in using his knowledge of Orochimaru’s experiments to help him grow back his eye and arm. What a SOB, lets hope his reign as Hokage will be the shortest one in history.
