Post Author: Bob
A quick announcement before I get started, I’ll be going on a vacation starting from next Saturday. It’s a long one and I’ll be back in about six weeks. I don’t know if I’ll have Internet access all the time, so my weekly blogs may get a little spotty. I’ll try my best, and maybe have one of the authors fill in some weeks or moving it later into the week if needed. Sorry about this guys, but Bob needs a little breaky every once in awhile
So the flashback continues into Nagato’s childhood while growing up as an orphan in war torn Amegakure. This chapter was a little predictable, but I still enjoyed it though I thought the pace could have been picked up already. I was kinda expecting Nagato to jump forward to his second most painful experience with Yahiko’s death, but he’s taking his time setting up the story it seems.
Instead we get treated to the death of Nagato’s little doggy, aptly named ’Tiny.’ I read through some of the early comments and there seems to be two camps on the issue of Tiny’s death. One side sees Nagato potentially using his dog’s death as another ’pain’ to justify his hate for Konoha. The other side sees Tiny’s death as further proof of the cruelness of war as it takes away the closest thing Nagato had to a “family” soon after he loses both of his parents. As a guy who’s owned a dog before, I’m gonna have to side with the second camp. My own dog died of natural causes a few years ago, but it’s hard to see something you love in pain, even if it’s just a pet. If somebody actually killed my dog, even if by a careless accident, I would be pretty furious. Now, whether I’d be enraged enough to devote my life to wage war on the world is another question.
But even though Tiny’s death is sad, I don’t think Nagato will ultimately dwell too much on it. In this chapter, Nagato, Konan and Yahiko do get a glimpse of the Konoha Sanins while they are battling Hanzou. Later on when they do approach Jiraiya and the others, neither Nagato or the other orphans showed any kind of hate or animosity towards the leaf ninjas. In fact, it was Nagato who killed Hanzou later on, even to the extend of wiping out his family and friends. It seemed that Hanzou was the person Nagato had a real grudge against at that time, yet he still blamed Konoha for much of the suffering he and his country had to endure. Based on these facts I think I can see how things will play out and how it ties in with Yahiko’s death.
I think the ones who will be responsible for Yahiko’s death are the ninjas from Amegakure, and not Konoha or some other foreign country’s troops. This is the only reason I can see that justifies the extreme measures Nagato supposedly took to wipe out all traces of Hanzou’s legacy from Amegakure. It could be that even Hanzou himself was responsible for Yahiko’s death. Based on what we know so far about Hanzou (his paranoia about protection and secrecy), I believe his policies regarding the village might have been partly responsible for why it is always in turmoil. Perhaps after being trained by Jiraiya, Yahiko, Konan and Nagato gained enough confidence to try to start a movement to challenge their Kage’s control over their village. Being the type of person he is, Hanzou would no doubt crack down with an iron fist.
In many ways Yahiko is very similar to Naruto, and this is probably one of the reasons why Nagato agreed to talk to Naruto about his past. Yahiko is also an idealist, he has a clear goal in mind and will do everything in his power to reach that goal no matter how impossible it might seem. He wasn’t just all words no action either, he was tough and knew how to survive (and help his friends) even when it seemed like the world had abandoned him. If he hadn’t died, I bet he would have became a strong and noble shinobi. After their training with Jiraiya, I can see Yahiko truly taking Jiraiya’s teachings to heart and committing himself to finding a solution to world peace. Perhaps it was then that his actions got the attention of Hanzou, who saw him as an obstruction to his power and eliminated him. As a result, Nagato not only blamed Hanzou for Yahiko’s death but also Jiraiya for putting such idealistic goals into their heads in the first place.

Great Chapter
this was a touching chapter, it showed the struggles that yahiko, nagato and konan had to go through on a daily basis to survive,
straying a bit but still on topic, this chapter made me realize how good of a teacher jiraiya is, trained 2 kages and a future kage
lol, love the title, but about Yahiko’s death, i can easily see that happening, Hanzou kills him 4 wanting to b so strong; my problem is that i don’t think that Yahiko would’ve been as noble a shinobi as Naruto, the whole “i’m going to b a god!” thing seems a bit, psychpathic.
oh, also on Yahiko’s death, if your right Bob, then Nagato really has hardly any justification 4 attacking Konoha, ninja kill his parents OUT OF SELF DEFENSE, his dog got injured by accident during a battle that just happened to have the sannin, and his friend was killed by a rain ninja (acording 2 your theory), not a leaf ninja, i hope Naruto just beats the crap outta him 4 making him listen to a life story that has happened to thousands of ppl, and i’m not talking bout just a battle that Naruto dominates, i’m talking bout a good ol’ fashion ass-beating, w/ very little resistance, just punching the hell outta emo-freak, nothing more, for about 5 pages, showing a bunch of different ways of beating the crap outta ppl, that would b funny
Great blog, so far i have nothing to say. Ill try adding more as time goes on.
@the Fallen, isnt the Hokage a god to those under him/her? The reason Yahiko wants to be a god is because only a god can stop all the war.
@bob-sama, this post is definitely one of ur best. It was exceptional!
Great Job!
i predicted this slow movement in the chapter, good job bob, the dead dog reminds of dragonball z when majin buu dog dies then the evil half of him comes out to merge with him then pein will emerge from the darkest deep cavern, i have a feeling this may take a while so everyone may be a little impatient, but like i said, i have some snacks fine scotch and a blunt so kick back for a little bit, still his eyes not being shown bugs me, does it mean something
@ kisu, a hokage is a political leader while a god is a super-natural being, u just need to b charismatic to become a political leader while u need 2 b born super-natural to become super-natural. in other words: it’s impossible to become a god and harder still to become THE God (or Yaweh, or Allah, which ever name u prefer), who is the only 1 who can really completely alter all reality (since He’s the only that exists, but that’s another story all together) my point is that Yahiko needs to b in a mental hospital.
and no kisu, mart (especially mart) and any1 else who cares, i do not want to go into a religious debate, i just brought it up to make a point on Yahiko’s insanity. again, i DO NOT want to go into a religious debate, it was just used 4 an example, nothing more! do not make it any more than it is supposed to b, an EXAMPLE!
This chapter was a real testament to Bob’s ability to analyze and write a masterpiece!
Truly a fantastic piece giving us the chapter and then drawing a theory for your conclusion comparing Naruto and Yahiko. It is an interesting theory and I look forward to seeing how it really pans out.
Im glad you’re going on vacation Bob! Everybody needs some R&R! enjoy!
Enjoy the break and get some sleep, Bob! (Some of you sound like you’re writing a eulogy, but withdrawal symptoms can be expected when contemplating 6 weeks…)
I had the same thought that it may not have been Konoha nin who were responsible for the second “great pain”, but Bob has given a good amount of detail into his execellent theory. My suspicious mind also started to wonder if the Sanin were deliberately targeted by Yahiko & co. to obtain power… Which makes sense if removing Hanzou was identified as a path to obtaining power (learning from the 3 ninjas who were able to stand against him). Then we also need to understand why the original Pain bodies we saw were all past opponents of Jiraiya. We’ll be in this story for a while, maybe Profess has an additional recliner and keg of beer in his entertainment room…
@bob-o: good job, I’ll help a bit if I can. Maybe J-sama will return the favor for the last few weeks over at bleached? I like your opinion, I also think that while the dog was painfull, it wasn’t his second great event.
@FSD: Especialy me? makes me feel so special! Kisu. Kind of beat me to the punch… but.
“i’m going to b a god!” thing seems a bit, psychpathic.
“I’m going to b a Hokage” thing seems a bit similar.
(NOT to be a religious debate) but the comparison isn’t metaphysical, it is about the power and righteousness that a god (to Yahiko) and a hokage (to naruto) posess, to them, their respective Icons are always right, always in charge, always powerfull, and especialy always respected (feared by enemies at the very least). The reason Yahiko wants to becaome a god instead of a Mizukage is because he doesn’t idolize his Mizukage like Naruto Idolizes the Hokage because he can’t see someone who is all powerfull let this happen to their village, where as in Naruto’s perspective, it didn’t happen to the village, so he can see the hokage with that idolization.
“Nagato really has hardly any justification 4 attacking Konoha” if it played out as Bob stated (Hanzo killing Yahiko), I think it would give Pein MORE justification because he is NOT attacking out of revenge but out of principle (not saying his principle is good or bad).
Hell YEH!!! ughhhhhhh huh!!! IVE BEEN WAITIN FOR SOME HANZO PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >.> only one but thats good enuf for me ALL MY HANZO FANS SAY WOOOO!!!
@ mart, about Mizukage, that’s Kirigakure, not Amegakure, actually Ame doesn’t even have a kage, just a kage-level leader, similar to how Oro leads Otogakure and is kage-level, but isn’t a kage; as for the justification part, i don’t get what you’re saying, to me i think that if Konoha was directly responsible for Yahiko’s death and it wasn’t an accident, then it would help add some small amount of mild justification 4 Nagato takin it out on Konoha, but only a tiny bit; 4 the “especially mart” thing, it’s just cuz that seemed to me that you’d b the 1 picking @ a religous comment for the next 2 days
@FSD: Oh yeah I was confused about the kage thing, it still aplies except that this time it’s just that he can’t idolize Hanzo instead of the mMzukage, and especially since Hanzo isn’t even a kage.
For the justification part, what I’m saying is that he (and all believers in his cause) would feel more justified if he attacked Kohana not out of a personal vendetta, but out of the belief that it was truly evil, as he believes the entire vilage system is evil.
“you’d b the 1 picking @ a religous comment for the next 2 days” thats one of the good thing about being atheistic.
@mat1
Your atheist?
I’m Muslim and all but i dont like getting involved in religious talks with other religions cause that just causes problems.
@ mart, yeah but the personal vendetta can help prove Pein’s point of veiw. as far as atheism, my dad’s 1 (or maybe agnostic, since he somtimes acts like he believes in a god, tho that’s a rare instance) so i get a pretty good point of veiw from the secular world
@ DK, yeah, i try avoiding religous talk as much as possible also, no matter what i’m told about having to preach to non-Christians, i don’t really give a rat’s ass
@DK: “talks with other religions cause that just causes problems.” the point is to CAUSE problems… (only to those that force their opinion) otherwise I don’t like to talk about it, my opinon, not yours move on…
@FSD: if the veddeta applies to everyone though, it’s less personal and more iconic.
I got to agree with Bob on Nagato sees Yahiko in Naruto. Same beliefs. As for holding the grudge, Nagato seems to have it for Hanzo. Hanzo was able to hold off the Legendary Sannin so it makes it very plausable he could of of easily killed all off the Leaf ninja when he attacked Konoha. Nagato kill Hanzo so he should be able to handle the Leaf ninja.
Anouther point, Pein along with Orochimaru was in Akatsuki at one point in his life. If Nagato did hold a grudge against the Leaf and blamed Team Sannin, he would of killed orochimaru while in the Akatsuki. Nagato has the grudge on Hanzo for killing Yahiko and his dog.
you forgot itachi as well Iruka, but the otherside is that both disavowed themselves of Kohana and would play along with the kohana hate if Pein decided to spew it.
I’m surprised that nobody has noticed that his dog became a summon for animal realm, or am I the only one that sees the resemblance.
In any event, good summary bob. I don’t think that the sannin killed Yahiko. Hanzo probably did. Thats why Nagato made him into “God Realm”. It makes his dreams come true in a way.
Also, I can’t wait to see a young Jiraiya, not to mention the look on his face when Nagato masters all five elements! This ought to be cool.
Anyway, catch you next week.
-pcgnome out
@pcgnoe
“Also, I can’t wait to see a young Jiraiya, not to mention the look on his face when Nagato masters all five elements! This ought to be cool.”
young Jiraya? and nagato master of all 5 elements? Dude where are you coming from? The past Nagato doesnt even know he’s a ninja. And Jiraya is dead if he wanted to see Nagato now.
I don’t know where your coming from so help me out here.
i think pcgnome meant that nagato learned 5 elements while training with jiraiya and it will be very surprising for jiraiya to see this. it’s a flashback seen, jiraiya don’t have to come back from death.
Good job Bob, as always. Well, you would kind of expect this slowness in flashback chapters. But man, I can’t believe there won’t be any Naruto next week, this sucks.
i just saw the sub version for bonds on narutoshipp ,it was awesome ,one of the best naruto movies yet
do you have a link fan boy?
Bob, if anyone deserves a vacation, it’s you. Writing these blogs every week must be taxing, both physically and mentally.
After watching Shippuden Movie 2, I found a new appreciation for Pein’s power. It took a whole squadron of Sora-nin to do what Demon Realm could do lol. Here’s the link to the subbed movie for anyone interested http://naruto-tv.com/naruto-shippuden-movie-2-bonds-subbed/
Regarding the last paragraph Bob Sensei wrote, I remember that in the first flashback with the three, Jyraia remembered Yahico saying that finding a compromise is crap. (chapter 372, pg 14-15). So just on this particular spot, my guess is that this ideology (Let them suffer the same pain as we do), was also completely assimilated by Nagato from Yahico. For me at least, this is why I always had doubts whether Yahico wasn’t the real Pein, since the way he spoke made him look like the father of the ideologies that were put in action by Pain. Also the fact the he says, I hate this country because it always rains… when I grow up I’m going to change that. Pain had a detection jutsu under the form of rain, and he could control when to start and stop it. My bet is that Nagato fully committed to this path due to the last words from Yahico, which will probably turn out in him asking Nagato to continue on his path and make a world without wars.
I think when it comes to being an orphan the odds are that because of no grounding and morals or life skills that mums and dads usually instill into a kid they usually turn bad which is a shame. Obviously due to narutos friends he didnt turn bad and he decided to use his suffering as a catalyst. i dont thin naruto suffered as much as nagato. yahiko or konan at that same age as the flash backs though. still no suffering is worth so many lives so no matter what he does it should not be given justification.
great bl0g…tnx bob..happy summer vacation…^^we will miss you…God speed^_^
anywayz the chapter is n0t g0od…its quietly dragging story which makes wasted story line…what i mean, i want direct to the point story play which is important or more content than crap…
like…
what happen to danz0u’s move??is he g0ing to take advantage the great destruction of konoha??…is he really have connection w/ tobi??we dunno…
the going part of cloud nins to konoha??…where are they??summer vacation??…kage’s summit??…
sasuke??i dun care….but tobi was failed again on his plan, but he can counter the konoha village on its vulnerable state…^^

i’m busy of these past few dayz until next month…however, still have time to read manga…^^
hopefully next issue not like this crap…okie…kishi…got it??…^^
Great post Bob.
@”no grounding and morals or life skills that mums and dads usually instill”: I have parents and I’ve never had any of those things from them…
@Kisu. Thanks for the link!
About the whole Yahiko wanting to become a God, maybe he wanted to become a Daimyo, or rule japan itself. I mean weren’t the actual royal family of japan considered Gods/divine Emperor? I mean we need to remember that the hidden villages exist within the normal japanese social structure, so i mean to rule Japan would in turn be equivalent to being a God.
Oh and I agree that this chapter could easily have been omitted, but I think it is to introduce us to the sannins and Hanzou and to show that even those who had no part to play in the war continued to be victims of it. Additionally, it shows that Yahiko (like naruto) was an idealist who inspired his friends to greatness (however perverted in ended up being). I also agree that Yahiko’s death is going to be the next painful catalyst, which will show Nagato that in order to really make a difference you have to actually become a ‘god’. It’s kinda in my opinion like the way Batman is told to be in BATMAN BEGINS (i.e. more than human, almost mythical).
i hope these flashbacks don’t go on for too long…
@lilmoe, Dude whats going on!?!?!?!?!? U never write such small comments! Whats the world coming to? I always look forward to reading your blog-length comments lol. Oh man……..
for me this has been the most boring chapter in a long while.
what’s with a dog coming into the story???
so basically yahiko wanted to become so strong that he’d be able to put an end to wars. and soon nagato wished for the same thing. what i don’t get is why he decided to destroy the world. with his power, nagato would have been able to prevent wars from erupting, but he sure has gone beyond the limit.
no reason he can give can justify what he’s doing, and naruto better not get convinced. but knowing how kishi does things that’s what’ll probably happen.
this story might be longer than i thought. i just wish he’d jump straight to yahiko’s death and explain how he became a maniac.
@kisuzachi… dude, i can’t help it… i hate boring shit… isn’t that guy embarrassed to talk about his dog? geez, talk about “pain”…..
btw, i watched shippuuden movie 2 today. i guess the trailers were all talk. this movie sucked bigtime, it was SOOOOO corny.
i watched NS movie bonds, and it totally sucks. another piece of garbage that only proves to me that only an original work of the author is worth more than 5 minutes of my time. all movies have so far followed the same trends. some kid that the main character develops a relationship with and helps overcome something. and come on, zero tails? and sasuke was not himself. they made him softer than he was three years ago. i skipped more than half the movie (seriously!)
yep, i guess movies are made to satisfy those fans who have ‘fantasies’ as to what the main characters ‘should’ be doing… as long as it sells the producers don’t give a shit. i heard the people who really are in agony are the authors themselves. i’ll pray for kishi’s piece of mind.
oops, that’s “peace” of mind….. sorry, typo.
“bonds” isn’t liked by many. too bad that i liked it, specially the KN4 fight scene. but the storyline is not that much i think, Bleach movies have stronger storyline than naruto movies.
No Shonen Jump this week.
There will be no Manga this week.
But we will have blogs!
Yeah, we may not have any manga out this week but at least we have Naruto Shippuuden movie 2 out. Although I like this movie it was not as good as the first one. BTW this chapter was ok only I wanted to see what happen more.
Until Luffy save Ace, Naruto manga rocks!.
@berserkerx
yeah you’re right all the naruto movies are the same. I guess we should stick to animated cartoon with real story plotline such as Disney, Pixar, and the Avengers movies. LOL!
awsome chapter
!
a bit predictable but ok. we finally get to see why pein’s like this. poor guy. i lost a puppy once. was not pretty. i feel ur pain pein.
can’t wait for the next chapter!!
great blog BM and enjoy ur vacation ^^!!
not to get off topic but will this show ever cum to usa
enjoy your vaction 2
@john83
Mhm Naruto is supposed to show in May and no SHJ this week =(
i’m wondering that if there was any evidence to ensure Kushina’s death. is it possible that she is alive?
chp446 SPOILER ALERT^_^
well…this is more interesting than last chapter445…we’ll might see it whole in early i think…hope so^_^
c yah…bb!
i really loved the first and second naruto movies, didn’t like the 3rd one. the first shippuuden movie was ok. nice and cute little new characters involved, with a decent story line.
the second movie was just wrong. and like berserkerx said, sasuke’s character was all mushy and shabbily presented. i thought the second shippuuden movie was all about sasuke “as advertised” but i guess false advertisement is also common in japan… bummer.
thinks dak prince but if any body know the exact date 4 naruto shippuden in usa let me no o this page .thanks.
may b kakashi is alive because tsunade was was working on him in the leaf .but if he s dead they should just cancel the show becaue the show could loose a good 25% of its fan base.
yo will sasuke ever go back 2 the leaf is all i want 2 know man
sasuke is my favriote and i want to know if any of u know is he ever gonna go back to the leaf village
He is ma favorite 2 .but we aint gonna no till we progress along wit the story.i hope he cum bac .because i dont want them to let naruto kill him off (even though sasuke can really beat him .an naruto ‘s the main character).they might have a bit of a serprise4 us. but can some one tell me if naruto shippuden cumin to usa please.
usoi da yo bob!
(i have no idea if i spelled that correctly, but i guess u guys get it…)
